VTC Central Admission Scheme welcomes applications by HKDSE candidates at various campuses

The results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) will be released next Wednesday (11 July). The Vocational Training Council (VTC) provides diversified and flexible progression pathways in vocational and professional education and training (VPET). In academic year 2018/19, VTC will offer more than 140 full-time programmes that range from Degree to Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma. Students are invited to submit late applications now through the VTC Admissions webpage (www.vtc.edu.hk/admission), then join the VTC Central Admission Scheme on the HKDSE results release day.

On the day of HKDSE results release, VTC’s member institutions – including all campuses of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), and the Chai Wan campus of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) – will be open to receive applications for VTC programmes . HKDSE candidates will be invited to attend on-site interviews and successful applicants will then be notified of the offer results on the day of the interview. (General entrance requirements are set out in Annex 1.)

Meanwhile, “conditional offers” that applicants have received earlier will be converted to confirmed offers if their HKDSE results meet stipulated requirements on the results release day. They are required to confirm acceptance of their offers in person at the offering campus between 10:00am and 4:00pm on the HKDSE results release day.

Students who have not yet submitted their applications, are without offers or have not accepted offers, can bring along their HKDSE result slips and visit IVE, HKDI and THEi (Chai Wan) campuses between 11 and 16 July to join the Central Admission Scheme for VTC programmes. Details are as follows:

All applicants who are offered places are required to complete registration in person at the offering campus before 12:00 noon on 16 July, or else the offer will become null and void.

In the 2018/19 academic year, VTC will provide about 17,000 places in its full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma programmes, leading to flexible progression pathways for HKDSE candidates.

At THEi, 20 vocationally-oriented Degree programmes will be provided by its Faculties of Design and Environment, Management and Hospitality, and Science and Technology, among which 12 are eligible for the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) launched by the Government. Interested students can apply for the SSSDP degree programmes through Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). Eligible students will be entitled to an annual subsidy amounting to HK$41,000 or HK$71,700.

Students can also apply for the other eight THEi full-time locally-accredited self-financing undergraduate programmes including Advertising, Professional Accounting, Hotel Operations Management, Public Relations and Management, Retail Management, Health Care, Food Science and Safety, and Testing and Certification. Eligible students who apply for the Government Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies are entitled to receive an annual subsidy of HK$30,800.

IVE, HKDI and the International Culinary Institute (ICI) will provide some 100 Higher Diploma programmes. Four new interdisciplinary Higher Diploma (HD) programmes will be available in the new academic year in response to the workplace demand for interdisciplinary talent, namely HD in Financial Technology, HD in Public Relations and Digital Communication, HD in Music and Digital Entertainment Business Management, and HD in Arts and Cultural Events Management. More new Higher Diploma programmes including HD in Baking and Pastry Arts related to international cuisine, HD in Community Service Planning and Navigation targeting elderly care services, and HD in International Business Management with Languages are also made available.

In addition, VTC will offer eight Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes in the new academic year. The Government has accepted the VTC Diploma of Foundation Studies as equivalent to five HKDSE subjects at Level 2, including English Language and Chinese Language. Moreover, the Youth College will offer 16 Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) programmes under three major study areas: Business and Services, Engineering and Design and Information Technology. Upon completion of a DVE programme, graduates can pursue higher qualification or enter the job market. Meanwhile, the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and ICI will provide eight employment-focused diploma programmes for entry into their respective professions.
