VTC partners with Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to host 2018 Symposium and Workshop for DSE Graduates

21 June 2018

In the run-up to results being released for this year’s Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE), candidates and parents are actively planning for the future. The Vocational Training Council (VTC) will partner with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) to hold the 2018 Symposium and Workshop for DSE Graduates on the afternoon of Saturday 30 June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, a VTC graduate is being invited to join the event and share his start-up experiences, leveraging the opportunities brought by innovative technologies. Representatives will be on hand to disseminate the latest information to candidates and parents on academic progression pertaining to their DSE results.

Founders of start-ups and education advisors will share their success stories and progression tips at the symposium with current DSE candidates. They will include Ron TAM, the founder of a healthcare technologies firm, who was an IVE graduate of a higher diploma programme in the Information Technology Discipline. During his studies, he was taught professional knowledge in cloud computing. Upon graduating with excellent results, he was offered a place on the Bachelor of Science (Honours) programme in Computer Science at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), but passed up the opportunity at the time as he was very keen to start a business on his own. Deploying the fast-developing cloud computing and big data technologies, he has since developed a customised healthcare management platform broadly adopted by medical groups and private clinics alike. Co-founder of another start-up, OnGrad, Anthony SO provides recruitment solutions for well-known enterprises through the application of new technologies and big data. Anthony will advise graduates on the essentials of job searching. Meanwhile VTC Senior Assistant Executive Director (Academic Services) Edmond YU will give details of the VTC Central Admission Scheme, held on the DSE results release day, to assist potential candidates to apply for the programmes of their choice.

In the Parents’ Talk, an HKFYG representative will outline the latest data on DSE results and provide professional counselling tips for parents to plan suitable progression pathways with their children. Popular actor/singer Edmond SO has also been invited to share his insights on communicating with children in the face of their results being released.

Mock interviews for the VTC Central Admission Scheme, programme info booths and career advisory workshops will also be organised to explain the flow of arrangements on results release day. Candidates can take aptitude tests on site to better understand their aspirations in planning their futures. All Secondary 6 students and parents are welcome to join. Seats for the Symposium will be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Registration website: http://www.vtc.edu.hk/ero/dse2018
