THEi-Nanyang Polytechnic MOU advances collaboration on academic exchanges and programme recognition

10 March 2015

The Faculty of Management and Hospitality of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the School of Business Management of Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP). The MOU provides mutual collaboration for student study articulation and exchanges, staff exchanges and research co-operation.

Professor David LIM, President of THEi and Mr Henry HENG, Deputy Principal (Organisational Excellence) and Senior Director of School of Business Management, NYP signed the MOU on behalf of the two institutions. A key element of the partnership is the provision of articulation places for NYP students to Year 3 of relevant degree programmes of THEi’s Faculty of Management and Hospitality. Another is student exchanges, where particpating students do not need to pay additional tuition fees to the offering institution and studies conducted successfully in each other’s programmes will be mutually recognised and granted credit.

Established in 1992, NYP has 7 schools encompassing business management, engineering, information technology, design, interactive & digital media, chemical & life sciences and health sciences.  It has a full-time student population of over 16,000 in 50 study programmes and also provides part-time and continuing education programmes. Together with four other polytechnics, NYP played an important role in providing Singapore with the skills needed to move from Third World to First World status in spectacular fashion. It continues to play this role in helping Singapore to maintain this status.

THEi is a member of the VTC Group. It offers degree programmes that are professionally and vocationally oriented across three faculties: Design, Management and Hospitality, and Science and Technology. The programmes are in areas where the VTC is strong and areas of growth in Hong Kong and the region. They combine knowledge acquisition and practical applications to enable students to grow into professionally-competent graduates. With its strong industry links, THEi provides students with a significant advantage in entering the workforce. Many of its programmes are funded by the Government under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP).
