Higher Diploma in Computer Systems Administration (41300)

Course Aims

The course aims to provide students with a practical grounding in both software development and the administration of computer systems of different types. Graduates of the course will be able to set up, maintain and support various kinds of  computer operating systems and local area networks and to develop and integrate application systems in commercial organisations.

Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed as computing professionals in either the public or private sector.  Graduates will begin their careers as programmers or technical support personnel with potential promotion to systems analyst positions or junior management positions in technical support.

Higher Diploma in Telecommunications and Networking (41304S)

Course Aims

Hong Kong has an advanced telecommunications infrastructure. This includes mobile / wireless networks, telephone fixed-line networks, broadband networks, submarine optical cable and a satellite earth station. The aim of this course is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to work in this exciting field. Practical work on the course will be based on recognised trade certificates so that skills are of direct relevance to industry practice and new technologies. This course is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

This course emphasizes the application of information technology in the logistics and supply chain industry.  Students will be equipped with a solid foundation as well as the necessary technological knowledge to support the information technology advancements in the logistics and supply chain industry.  This 3-year course has been specially designed for science background students who have completed Form 5 in order to enable them to develop their careers in the information technology or logistics and supply chain industries.

Career Prospects

Graduates are likely to secure employment as a System Analyst, Software Engineer or Programmer.   They can also take up positions such as Logistics Executive, Logistics Analyst or Logistics Engineer in the logistics and supply chain industry.  Currently, we are seeking accreditation from professional bodies and articulation with universities for graduates who wish to further their studies.

Course Aims

The course aims to provide students with professional training in design and development of interactive computer games on mobile and internet environments, particularly in various mobile devices, such as mobile phones and personal digital devices such as Palms, in order to access the Intranet and Internet. The course will enhance students' ability and competence to meet the needs of the fast-growing computer games and animation industry.

Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed as mobile digital game developers and designers, mobile and internet systems technical officers, mobile commerce application programmers and web application programmers, and move into posts such as computer game manager, internetworking administrators, web masters and other managerial position.

       b) Applicants who apply based on the Diploma in Vocational Studies / Foundation Diploma / Foundation Certificate / Project Yi Jin qualifications have to possess a pass in the Diploma in Vocational Studies / Foundation Diploma / Foundation Certificate / Project Yi Jin.
2.    Completion in VTC’s Applied Learning (ApL) courses (formerly known as Career-oriented Curriculum (COC) courses) will be recognised by the VTC as equivalent to a HKCEE pass.
3.    IVE / SBI / HKDI / VTC Youth College reserve the right to cancel any course, to revise the course content or to change the offering campus(es) of the courses.
4.    If applicants who obtained the following results in the HKCEE English Language, when admitted to this course, will be required to enroll separately on the English Foundation Programme (EFP) (90 hours) offered by the VTC:
       a) below Level 1; or
       b) below Grade F in the HKCEE English Language (Syllabus B) or below Grade D in (Syllabus A) in or before 2006; or
       c) have not taken the examination.

The course fee of the EFP is HK$2,500 for 2006 / 07. The course fee for 2007 / 08 will be reviewed. There will be a financial assistance scheme for students in need.
