I am a graduate from 4-year Higher Diploma in Information Technology for Business (Web Design & Development) in Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Shatin). I joined IVE as a year-two student just after I finished Form 6. In the past three years, I have achieved plenty knowledge on programming and software development. Also, I learned many important skills such as project management skill, leadership skill and decision-making skill etc.
On the other hand, I appreciate their educational model. There are many practical courses, so that we can have a chance to gain some working experience and understand the workflow in the reality. We have also acquired strong organizational ability, in-house presentation skill and good communication skill through the final year project before graduation. This course provides the competitiveness and practical skills we need in order to enter into the society.
Now I am working for a listed company in Hong Kong as a web developer and I am a part time student of City University of Hong Kong. |

Looking back to my life in IVE, I’m appreciated that it makes me equipped a lot of skills in order to prepare any new challenge from the society. School life in IVE is a definitely memorable treasure. Database, network, project, etc…… enriched me not only the computer knowledge, but also the generic skills, time management, etc. Thanks for those entire teachers who motivated me in learning and also prepared a nice atmosphere.
As a diploma student, my goal was to achieve the requirement to get into higher diploma and so on. Under patience guidance, finally I was promoted to higher diploma, finished my top-up degree afterward.
With the encouragement from IVE’s teacher, I motivated myself to obtain higher qualification and jumped into education field as my entire career. With few years teaching experience, now I come back to IVE as one of the teacher and do hope I can strengthen my students confident and knowledge as well.

Being a tertiary student, I would like to contribute the society by the skills possessed in my studying, like project management, importance of teamwork together with some leadership skills, solving some complicated case and an effective time management. These skills do not only help achieving my goal but also help carry on my further study and future career.
I am an energetic, active and responsible person. I have participated numerous extra-curricular activities include Chairperson of Representative Committee, and the Best Leader of Elite Student Training Program held by Student Affairs Office in IVE (Shatin). From these duties, my communicative skills and skills of expressing my ideas are improved, together with my confidence and also widen my scope of view on human relationships. I have learnt how to solve the emergent situation, and in turn being trained to be independent.

 It is a good memory in my IVE life. In these few years, I really feel warm just like a family. There are too many people including teacher and student let me learn in IVE most comfortable. I quite appreciate that every classmate works with the same target. I won't get lonely and get high motivation to perform my task and try to do it well.
The other thing that I appreciate is the course of IVE. These are most practical and not only focus on theory. In the lesson, teachers give us some basic concept. Also it has tutorials and lab session to help us deeply understand what we have learnt in the lecture. Honestly, I like this learning method. I don't like to memorize a lot of theory into brain. It is very hard for me. But in IVE, I didn't memorize too much because I can understand most and get the method for my study.
Finally, I didn't only learn in IVE. I also get much such as leadership skill and friendship. Again, it is a good memory in my IVE life and I am sure I won't forget it in the future.

 In the past three years, I studied at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE). Time passed before I knew it. I joined IVE just after I had completed my HKCEE examination. As a year-one student, IVE was completely new to me and I was fearful of my study. My study at IVE really posed a great change to my life. Everything was difficult for me during my first year study with the course HD in Web-based Technology for Business. Almost everything was new to me since I was from Arts stream and just attained the level of HKCEE. Fortunately, I met a group of good teachers and helpful friends at IVE. Under their guidance, I learned things not only from books but also "outside" books. Though my first year study was a difficult one, I got promoted to year two.
Under the patience guidance of and encouragement from teachers, I was determined to make more effort in year two. In summer vacation, I reviewed what I had learnt and prepared for what I would learn in year two. With the effort I had made, I handled all lessons and homework with ease. Examination was no longer difficult for me. I set strict demands on myself - to find ways to enhance my knowledge and to plan for the future which I had never considered before.
I set a target for myself when school term began in year three - to get a place in university on my own strength. I made extra effort and took part in many extra-curricular activities in year three to gain experience, with an aim to get myself prepared for the entrance examination of university. The City University of Hong Kong offered me a place at last. This proves that IVE graduates are on equal status with F.7 graduates to compete for a place in university.
In the past three years, other than computer knowledge, I learned how to become competitive - to understand the society, to develop my potential and to better equip myself.

It is widely believed that to get a place in Form 6 or university is only a dream if one cannot achieve good HKCEE results. Even if one can enter Form 6, a place in university is not guaranteed. In my opinion, if one's HKCEE results are only barely enough to allow him to enter From 6 and he fails to get a place in university at last, I will suggest him to go to vocational college to learn something practical. He will be in a more advantageous position to compete for a job compared with a Form 7 graduate after graduation.
My eldest daughter failed to enter Form 6 and chose to study a three-year accountancy course at Technical Institute/Technical College (now known as Institute of Vocational Education (IVE)). After graduation, she was admitted to the City University of Hong Kong to study a BA accountancy course with her HKCEE results and IVE examination results. She has been working as an auditor after university graduation. My second daughter is currently studying a course Higher Diploma in Web-based Technology for Business offered by the Sha Tin campus of IVE and plans to further her study at university. Although it is still uncertain whether she will be successful, IVE provides her with another way to get a chance to go to university.
Each time when my friends told me their worry about the further education of their children after completion of From 5 with unsatisfactory HKCEE results, I would tell them about the experience of my daughters and suggest their children to consider IVE courses. My friend later told me how their children enjoyed IVE life, how their children developed interest in study and how their children built up confidence without the pressure of taking the Advanced Level examination.
Although some IVE graduates cannot further their study at university, the employment rate of IVE graduates is still high. IVE graduates have been well received by industry and some companies even set up recruitment booths at IVE campuses and recruit IVE students on-the-spot. Last but not least, in my opinion, it is advisable to choose IVE.
