General Entrance Requirements

Entrance Requirements Year 1 :
Completion of Secondary 5 OR Certificate in Vocational Studies OR equivalent. Please Note : When admitted, some students will be required to enroll separately on an English Foundation Programme at additional charge. Please see Note 4 below for details.

Entrance Requirements Year 2 :
HKCEE 5 subjects - Grade E / Level 2 or above (including English Language and Mathematics) OR Foundation Diploma OR Foundation Certificate OR Project Yi Jin OR equivalent.

Minimum Entry Requirements to Year 4 :
Holder of IVE Diploma in Information Technology for Business (Web Design & Development) (41221) OR Possessing relevant recognized Diploma / Higher Certificate OR equivalent.

Course Aims :

The course aims to provide students with the necessary web design, Internet applications, electronic commerce knowledge and technological skills so that they can successfully contribute to the development and management of Internet-based business systems in industrial and commercial enterprises. They can apply the knowledge in building company image and branding, promotion and advertising, sales and marketing, strengthen communication with customers, provide information and interactive services, and streamline business operations. Cultivating multi-disciplinary skills shall facilitate students to build up their careers with more choices.

Career Prospects :

Graduates may take up positions such as Web Designer, Web Editor, Web Developer, Web Administrator, Systems Analyst and Programmer, Operator and Technical Support, Sales and Marketing, Promoter and Advertiser, and posts that involve design, development, operation, support, promotion and management of Internet-based business systems. They are capable of working in small and medium enterprises to design web-based information systems for general business, online promotion, customer relationship management and electronic commerce. They may also join business or technical teams in larger organizations.

Graduates can apply for admission to the following courses:

Bachelor degree programme : BEng in Information Engineering offered by City University of Hong Kong (Second Year).
Bachelor degree programme : Bachelor of Computing with Honours offered by the Open University of Hong Kong (Third Year).
Bachelor degree programme : top-up degree programme of the Bachelor of Science (Information Technology) offered by Swinburne University of Technology, Australia.

Industrial Recognition:

The Higher Diploma programme is accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

(a) Applicants taking HKCEE English Language in 2006 or before should have attained Grade E or above (Syllabus B) / Grade C or above (Syllabus A).
(b) Applicants who apply on the strength of their Diploma in Vocational Studies / Foundation Diploma / Foundation Certificate / Project Yi Jin qualifications have to pass the relevant course.
Upon successful completion of one Education Bureau's* quality-assured ApL course (formerly named as Career-oriented Curriculum (COC) course), the qualification obtained is recognised as comparable to one HKCEE subject pass (or given preference) for admission to Higher Diploma, Diploma and Foundation Diploma courses offered by the IVE / SBI / HKDI / YC.
* The Education Bureau is formerly named as the Education and Manpower Bureau.
The VTC reserves the right to cancel any course, to revise the course content or to change the offering campus(es) of the courses if so required.
Applicants, who are admitted to the 1-year Foundation Diploma Course or 4-year Higher Diploma (Entry to Year 1) Course but obtained the following results in the HKCEE English Language, will be required to enroll separately on the English Foundation Programme (EFP) (90 hours) offered by the VTC :
a)    below Level 1; or
b)    below Grade F in the HKCEE English Language (Syllabus B) or below Grade D in (Syllabus A) in or before 2006; or
c)    have not taken the HKCEE English Language.The course fee of the EFP is HK$2,500 for the academic years 2006 / 07
and 2007 / 08. There will be a financial assistance scheme for students in need.
