Unable to install VPN Client

A possible reason is that you have installed " Internet Connection Sharing", which conflicts with Cisco VPN Client.

You may get the following screen during VPN Client installation.

To resolve this problem, uninstall or disable " Internet Connection Sharing" first and then reinstall VPN Client again.

Please refer to Disable "Internet Connection Sharing" Procedure for details.

Unable to establish VPN connection

Please check the followings:

  • Your PC meets the system requirements of the VPN client.
  • You have already connected to the Internet.
  • You have imported the vtc.pcf file (pre-configured VPN client profile).
  • Use correct username and password (For example: student use student ID, staff use email login name).

Please check the followings:

  • You have established the VPN connection (see the VPN icon at the task bar).

  • You have started a new browser application after established the VPN connection.
  • No proxy settings in your browser.
  • Typed in the correct URL (Services list: http://www.vtc.edu.hk/itsd/vpn/slist.htm).

Unable to send e-mail

If you can connect with the Cisco VPN Client on Windows XP but cannot send email, this is likely an MTU problem.

Common failure indications include the following:

  • You can receive data, such as mail, but not send it.
  • You can send small messages (about 10 lines), but larger ones time out.
  • You cannot send attachments in email.

Please right click here and choose "Save Target As" (Internet Explorer) / "Save Link As" (Netscape) option to download Registration Entries file. Double click the file and click "YES" button. Windows XP's MTU setting will be changed to solve the problem.

Please refer to Adjusting the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) Value in Cisco for details.
