The Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre (HITDC) of the VTC celebrated the opening of its training hotel, namely the T-Hotel, today (23 March) with guests and supporters from the hotel, catering and tourism industries. With the objective to cultivate and maintain a standard of excellence in hospitality training, the T-Hotel provides the platform for HITDC’s students to apply their knowledge and skills in a real life setting.
Converted from the former training facilities of HITDC, the T-Hotel is Hong Kong’s first ever training hotel operated by students under the supervision and guidance of a team of experienced hospitality trainers. The 30-room establishment is dedicated to operational training to ensure that its graduates can meet industry requirements immediately upon graduation.
Dr the Honourable Andrew LEUNG Kwan-yuen, Chairman of the VTC, said that the idea of the T-Hotel was to promote experiential learning where students can engage in interactions with hotel guests, in order to sharpen their customer-servicing, communication and problem-solving skills within an authentic workplace setting.
Mr Lawrence WONG, Director, Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre and Chinese Cuisine Training Institute was delighted with the opening of the T-Hotel. “The establishment of this training hotel not only gives students greater interactive training opportunities; other VTC member institutions such as the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute, will also benefit from it in their collaborations with overseas’ training partners and exchange programmes.
Located in the Western hillside of Hong Kong Island, the T-Hotel occupies the entire sixth floor of the VTC Pokfulam Complex. It comprises 30 guest rooms, a gymnasium, a business centre and an executive lounge with panoramic view.
These hotel facilities will complement the existing training facilities at the HITDC, which include the wine laboratory, food science laboratory, IT training workshop, language laboratory, housekeeping workshop, training and demonstration kitchens as well as its Western Training Restaurant.
Adding to these existing facilities are the Learning Resources Centre and Training Spa, which combine to create a truly unique facility for education, hospitality training and accommodation.
Room facilities at the T-Hotel include welcome amenities, internet connection, flat screen television, in-room safe, mini-bar and coffee and tea making facilities. Additional guest services feature complimentary use of gymnasium, 24-hour in-room dining service, business centre, executive lounge with daily breakfast and evening cocktails, dry cleaning service, weekday free shuttle bus to Central and a trainee-operated concierge service.
Celebrating over a quarter century of quality competency-based education and training for the hospitality industry in Hong Kong, the Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre strives to maintain and uphold Hong Kong's leadership position in the hospitality industry in Asia.
