    HKDI student shines in
    international eyewear design competition

Samuel SO, a student of the Higher Diploma in Timepiece and Lifestyle Product Design course of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), whose eyewear design beat a number of international competitors and won him a merit prize of the “2010 OPUS DESIGN AWARD”.

A reputed international eyewear design competition focusing on product originality, the “OPUS DESIGN AWARD”, has been organised by Japan for 10 years to provide a platform for designers around the globe to showcase their design concepts. Over 700 entries were received from competitors of some 50 countries this time, many of whom were professional designers possessing more than 10 years’ experience.

The winning work of Samuel was named “Nude”, which was made of titanium with simple lines that reflected the minimalist style of the Japanese. Indeed, the minimalist lines were full of fun. Samuel designed several plastic frames for putting on the eyewear, the varying colours of which embodied the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.
