A team of students from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Kwun Tong Campus beat over 410 competing teams from local tertiary institutes and walked away with the Championship, The Most Creative Team and My Favourite Team at the Hong Kong Business Competition 2011 organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). They were commended for their thorough planning, innovative proposal and convincing presentation.
The Competition this year required contestants to submit a feasible and innovative business plan to solicit sponsorship for setting up a social enterprise for people with disabilities. The 4-member team of the Higher Diploma in Accountancy and Information Systems from IVE (Kwun Tong) anchored their submission on the theme of operating a dessert cafe. They prepared a comprehensive proposal which lucidly detailed the operation, publicity channels and budgeting of the business. On the day of the final competition, they outperformed other teams and won three awards with their outstanding presentation skills and a role play to bring out the gist of their business plan which won the applause of the judges and audience.
6 other IVE teams from Department of Business Administration also managed to rank among the Top 20 teams and received Judges Commendation Award for their good performance.
The large-scale Competition, already in its fifth year, is organised by ACCA, with a view to providing practical opportunities for sub-degree students pursuing business and accountancy studies to apply what they learnt in a simulated context to enhance their management, budgeting, communication and marketing skills. IVE teams took part in the Competition every year and many a time emerged with flying colours.
The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) is a member of VTC Group. The 9 IVE campuses are located across the territory. Together they provide vocational education for secondary 7 graduates and secondary 6 graduates under the new academic structure as well as people in employment. IVE courses leading to the award of higher diploma, diploma or foundation diploma cover various academic disciplines including Applied Science; Business Administration; Child Education and Community Services; Information Technology; Engineering; and Hotel, Service and Tourism Studies.
