In the Final Competition of the 2011 Best Apprentice Competition held earlier, 9 participants were required to examine and fix a car within 30 minutes. All the 6 winners chosen were VTC graduates and they would be arranged to visit the manufacturing plant of KIA Motors and related facilities in Korea.
 
Speaking at the Prize Presentation Ceremony, Joseph LAI, Commissioner for Transport and the Guest-of-Honour, said skilled auto technicians were required to conduct regular maintenance servicing to ensure the safety of vehicles. Auto technicians should constantly upgrade themselves to meet new challenges. VTC has all along been committed to providing training to raise the professionalism of the auto apprentices so that they could support the industry and raise the standard of auto maintenance.    
 
Dr Ringo LEE, Chairman of the VTC Automobile Training Board, also pointed out that auto maintenance personnel should be fully aware of the industry trends and keep abreast of the latest technologies to meet developing needs of the industry.  

Organised by the VTC Automobile Training Board first in 1986, the annual Best Apprentice Competition has now come to its 25th year. Targeted on vehicle mechanics and electricians in their final year of apprenticeship, the main purpose of the competition was to arouse the awareness of employers and young people of the importance of proper training and at the same time provide opportunities for young people to learn more about the auto industry so as to spur their interests in joining the industry.

The Automobile Training Board is one of the 21 training boards under VTC. The boards conduct regular manpower surveys to collect updated information on the manpower situation of their respective industries to forecast manpower growth, ascertain training demands and formulate proposals to employers, and education and training providers to meet the demands for industry professionals.
