IVE Solar car to compete in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012

SOPHIE, the solar-powered car developed by the Department of Engineering, IVE (Tsing Yi), is going to represent Hong Kong to flex its muscle in a Formula 1 race track in Malaysia. This is the first time a Hong Kong team participates in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012.

The SOPHIE team comprises 8 engineering students of IVE (Tsing Yi), who attended the rally today (5 June) to showcase the newly-developed SOPHIE. The new car is more streamlined and effective in converting solar energy into electricity. The team will compete in the third Shell Eco-marathon Asia held in Kuala Lumpur for 140 student teams from 18 regions from 4 to 7 July. At Sepang International Circuit, SOPHIE will compete with other green car teams on how to make use of the least energy for the longest journey.
