Business Enterprise Start-Up
Upon course completion, students will be able to:
- perform basic steps in starting a new business and registering a company
- interview and recruit staff and conduct basic HR and office administrative activities within safe and ethical employment conditions
- prepare a marketing plan and develop basic knowledge and skills in customer service
- operate basic accounting procedures including preparation of budgets and financial statements
- identify key features and opportunities in the business environment in Hong Kong and China
- develop a business proposal and apply it in a simulated business setting
Course Content
- Entrepreneurship and business start-up techniques
- Planning a new business, structuring a company, sources of financial assistance, business registration and government supports
- Set-up of virtual enterprises
- Human resources and office administration
- Staff recruitment and introduction to labour rights
- Occupational health & safety and business ethics
- Understanding simple business transactions and preparing agenda and minutes for meeting
- Marketing Practice
- Introduction of marketing concepts, marketing objective, target market and market analysis, marketing mix and customer relations
- Accounting and Finance for Entrepreneur
- Start-up costs and sources of start-up finance
- Cost accounting, breakeven analysis, financial statements, and ratio analysis
- Hong Kong and China Business Environment
- Economic development and job opportunity in the Pearl River Delta region
- Legal system in China and current economic issues
- Business Start-up Simulation
- Preparation and delivery of business ideas
- Practical interaction, and evaluation and conclusion

Graduates will benefit from the course when starting up a small business of their own and preparing for entry-level employment such as sales personnel and office assistant in the business services sector. Upon completion of further study in relevant Higher Diploma/Diploma courses, they may take up posts at the technical, supervisory, or managerial level in the business sector.
