Film and Video Studies
 

Upon course completion, students will be able to:

  1. understand and identify the basic concepts of film theory
  2. understand and perform film appreciation and critique verbally
  3. apply knowledge and demonstrate basic techniques in basic camera shooting and lighting set up
  4. apply and demonstrate the knowledge and practical skills of editing and basic sound design
  5. integrate and apply perspectives and experience from the learning of video production through project work
   
Course Content  
 
  • Film theory and criticism
    • Understanding different type of film and moving image
    • Identify visual components of various genres of film
    • Analyze and evaluate a film's components

  • Imaging and lighting
    • Operation technique of video camera, lighting equipments and accessories
    • Lighting design
    • Shooting technique of special genres

  • Editing & sound
    • Analyze editing for narrative and storytelling
    • Principles of editing and operation technique of editing software
    • Sound design theory and recording technique

  • Film and video production project
    • Pre-production planning
    • Directing, script-writing technique, and storyboard technique
    • Project presentation

  • Employment opportunities
    Graduates may pursue careers in the local TV station or production house including production assistants, video editors, camera operators and technical operators. After further operational experience and study, they may be employed as technical artists or assistants in various areas including web page design and production, computer animation, interactive multimedia authoring and video production.
