Course Information
Hotel Operations
 

Through a simulated learning environment, students can gain basic knowledge and receive hands-on training in various aspects of hotel operations, including front office, food and beverage, and housekeeping. The course will enable students to develop interest in the profession of the hospitality industry as well as service culture, self-discipline, teamwork and attain transferable skills on problem solving, communication and presentation.

  • Introduction to the Hospitality Industry

  • Introduction to Front Office Operations
    • Functions and roles of the Front Office Department
    • Practical skills and operational equipment
    • Selling techniques
    • Safety, security and emergency procedures
    • Job-related English and Putonghua

  • Introduction to Housekeeping Operations
    • Organization and functions of the Housekeeping Department
    • Housekeeping procedures and related computer skills
    • Application of different chemicals and operation of machines
    • Job-related English and Putonghua

  • Introduction to Food and Beverage Service Operations
    • Organization and functions of the Food and Beverage Department
    • Basic food service skills, serving procedure and hygiene and safety
    • Basic menu and beverage knowledge
    • Job-related English and Putonghua
     
Articulation to Further Study and/or Employment
 
  • Graduates may apply for admission to the following courses offered by the VTC:
    • Higher Diploma/ Diploma courses in the Hotel, Services and Tourism Discipline
    • Diploma in Vocational Studies in Tourism and Accommodation Operations
    • Certificate in Front Office and Housekeeping Operations
    • Certificate in Front Office Service
    • Certificate in Food and Beverage Service
    • Certificate in Hotel Apartment Housekeeping Service
    • Certificate in Hotel and Catering Operations
    • Certificate in Housekeeping Service
    • Hospitality Industry Foundation Certificate Course

  • Graduates may pursue a career in the hotel/tourism industry, taking up positions like telephone operator, reservation clerk, room attendant and butler. Upon successful completion of the above advanced courses and accumulation of substantial operational experience in the field, graduates will be able to rise to positions of supervisory or management level gradually

Cantonese (supplemented with English terminologies) or English

   
Selection Arrangement
 

Students applying for the course have to attend an interview to assess their interests towards the industry, grooming, attitude, ability of communication and language skill, etc. They will be selected according to their performance at the interview.
