On completing the course, students are expected to:
Understand the basic principles, concepts and techniques in financial accounting
Apply basic accounting knowledge to record business transactions and prepare financial statements and related information using computer software widely-used by small and medium enterprises
Create and process end-of-period adjustment entries from given information
Produce various kinds of reports of a given period for management decision, analysis and financial reporting purposes
Course Content
Relevant considerations in setting up a SME
Daily transactions, year-end accounting reports, and submission of financial statements
Cost calculation and financial reporting for SMEs within the manufacturing sector, financial reporting for partnership in SMEs, and evaluation of the business’ profitability, liquidity and efficiency and capital structure
Understanding principles of financial accounting
Articulation to Further Study and/or Employment
Related further study opportunities in the VTC/Professional qualifications:
Diploma/ Higher Diploma in related disciplines, and attempting the eight-paper Accounting Technician Examination, heading towards the professional accountancy qualification progressively
Employment opportunities:
Graduates equipped with the CAC qualification# are able to start their career in the profession at the entry level
Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding students to sponsor them to take the professional examinations organized by HKIAAT.
# Remark: Students will be granted the HKIAAT Certified Accounts Clerk (CAC) qualification upon successful completion of the course (without having to take the Book-keeping and Accounts Examination and Computerised Accounts Examination). Application fee is half of the normal cost (HK$110).
