Q1.

What are the progression pathways for VTC Higher Diploma graduates?

A1.

VTC Higher Diploma graduates may apply for full-time and part-time top-up degree programmes offered by SHAPE and PEAK, members of VTC Group, in collaboration with numerous internationally renowned local and overseas universities. They can also choose to pursue further studies in local universities through the non-JUPAS Admission Scheme; or to pursue studies at overseas universities. From 2014 onwards, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), also a member of VTC Group, will admit Higher Diploma graduates with a credit award into the senior years of the degree programmes.

Q2.	Can applicants use results of the same public examination in different years of award in the application for admission to VTC programmes?
A2.	Applicants can apply with results of the same public examination in different years of award. The best grade of multiple attempts on a particular subject will be assessed for admission.

Q3.	Can applicants combine public examination results of the old and new academic structures in application for admission to the programmes?
A3.	The public examination results of the old and new academic structures will NOT be considered in combination in the assessment for admission. Please refer to the Admissions Homepage for the entrance requirements of each programme.

Q4.	If applicants do not have Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above (including English Language and Chinese Language), to which Post-secondary 6 programmes of VTC can they apply for admission?
A4.	Applicants may apply for Foundation Diploma (Level 3) and Diploma in Vocational Education programmes offered by IVE / YC, of which the general entrance requirement is "Completion of Secondary 6 (under the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure)".

Q5.

Would qualifications obtained in Mainland China / Other Non-local Qualifications be considered in the application for Post-secondary 6 programmes of VTC if applicants do not have local qualifications?

A5.

Qualifications obtained in Mainland China

Applicant who does NOT have Hong Kong public examination result and wish to apply with qualifications obtained in Mainland China --
- applicant should have completed Senior Secondary 3 Education in Mainland China; AND
- assessment will be based on results obtained in the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE)^#.

If applicant has obtained a TOEFL score or the result of IELTS, please give relevant details and upload copies of the result slips during application.
Applications will be assessed individually by the departments concerned.

# Applicants without NCEE result may apply for Foundation Diploma (Level 3) or Diploma in Vocational Education programmes.

Other Non-local Qualifications

Other non-local qualifications refer to academic qualifications obtained in secondary or tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong and Mainland China.
If applicant has obtained results in GCSE, IGCSE or GCE O-level / A-level / AS-level examinations, an International Baccalaureate (IB) or other overseas qualifications, please give relevant details and upload copies of the result slips during application.
If applicant has obtained a TOEFL score or the result of IELTS, please give relevant details and upload copies of the result slips during application.
Applications with non-local qualifications, including language qualifications, will be assessed individually by the departments concerned.

Q6.

For applicants holding HKDSE examination results, would alternative English Language qualifications be considered in the application if applicants do not have the required English Language qualifications?

A6.

Applicants who are in possession of the following qualifications will be considered individually in the application :

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); OR
International English Language Testing System (IELTS); OR
GCSE / IGCSE / GCE O-level English Language ; OR
GCE A-level / GCE AS-level English Language; OR
International Baccalaureate (IB) English Language; OR
VTC’s Vocational English Module Certificates.

Q7.	For applicants holding HKDSE examination results, would alternative Chinese Language qualifications be considered in the application if applicants do not have the required Chinese Language qualifications?
A7.	Applicants who are in possession of the following qualifications will be considered individually in the application : HKDSE Other Language subjects (Category C subjects); OR GCSE / IGCSE / GCE O-level Chinese Language ; OR GCE A-level / GCE AS-level Chinese Language. In applying for programmes offered by IVE / HKDI, what are considered as "Applications with Special Circumstances"?

Applications with Special Circumstances include :

Applicants with Special Educational Needs
Mature Applicants

Applicants with Special Educational Needs

Applicants with Special Educational Needs refer to applicants with special circumstances, such as hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical handicap, speech impairment, intellectual disabilities, mental illness, autism, visceral disability / chronic illness, specific learning disability, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder.
Please give details of the special educational needs and upload copies of documents for verification during application.
Applicants will be required to attend admission interviews or individual assessments.

Mature Applicants

Applicants aged 23 or above on or before 1 September 2013 and do not meet the entrance requirements for Higher Diploma or Foundation Diploma (Level 3) programmes may apply for admission as mature applicants.
Applications from mature applicants will be considered on an individual basis. They must demonstrate sufficient motivation, knowledge, potential and ability to make it likely they would complete the programme successfully. Applicants will not have priority over other applicants, and only a limited number of places are offered to suitable mature applicants.

Applicants will be required to attend admission interviews or individual assessments.

Q9.	What is the medium of instruction in IVE / HKDI ?
A9.	The medium of instruction for IVE / HKDI’s Post-secondary 6 programmes is English and may be supplemented with Chinese, as when and where required.

Q10.

Can Non-local Applicants apply for admission to VTC’s full-time Post-secondary 6 programmes?

A10.

Non-Hong Kong residents who require a student visa / entry permit issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department to enter Hong Kong for the purpose of education are classified as non-local applicants. Please contact the VTC International Students Office for details of programmes offered to international or Mainland applicants in the 2013/14 academic year and admission-related matters. Q11.	To which programmes of VTC can applicants holding Post-secondary 7 qualifications apply for admission?
A11.	Holders of both HKALE and HKCEE results may apply for Degree and Higher Diploma programmes offered by THEi / IVE. Applications will be assessed individually by the departments concerned.
