HKALE (1 A-Level subject or 2 AS-Level subjects at Grade E or above) AND HKCEE (5 subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English Language [Note 1] and Chinese Language);
OR
Possessing relevant recognised Diploma / Higher Certificate;
OR
Equivalent.

Course Aims

This course equips students with knowledge of the tourism industry, like airline and cruise management, hotel operations, travel geography and event planning, etc. Students will acquire skills through practices in simulated working environment and industrial attachment in travel-related companies, so as to be prepared for future careers in the industry.

This course is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

Prospects

Graduates can start their careers at entry level in the tourism sectors they are interested in. After accumulating operational experiences, they will rise to supervisory or middle managerial positions, such as ground services manager at airlines, tour development manager, tour operations manager, ticketing manager, and etc.

Credit Exemption

SHAPE is collaborating with the Sheffield Hallam University, UK to offer a full-time top-up bachelor degree programme - BSc (Hons) in Tourism Management.

In general, universities in the UK and Australia accept Higher Diploma holders for entry to the final year of a degree programme. Alternatively graduates may also work for some years, and then proceed directly to a Master's course.

Note(s):

Applicants who took HKCEE English Language in 2006 or before should have attained Grade E or above (Syllabus B) / Grade C or above (Syllabus A).
Successful completion of one Education Bureau's Applied Learning (ApL) course (formerly known as Career-oriented Curriculum (COC) courses) is recognised as comparable to one HKCEE subject pass.
