Entrance Requirements

Completion of Secondary 6 (under the New Senior Secondary academic structure) or equivalent.

Programme Aims

The Programme aims to deliver a quality education, with vocational and generic elements, that will enable students to achieve both the basic skills required for developing a career in the industry, and a sound academic foundation for further studies. The Programme focuses heavily on communication, in particular English, Chinese with Putonghua and Information Technology, as these areas are particularly important in the workplace. Emphasis is also placed on the development of interpersonal skills and teamwork, and a student-centred approach.

This Programme equips students with skills required for employment in the engineering industries and prepare them for further studies.


Foundation Diploma (Level 3) graduates will be eligible to apply for VTC Higher Diploma Programmes, which normally require five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language.

  1. Students of the Foundation Diploma (Level 3) Programme whose HKDSE English Language result is below Level 1 or who have not taken the examination are required to complete an English Enhancement Programme.
  2. Foundation Diploma (Level 3) students who have not obtained Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics may consider taking the optional module “Foundation Mathematics III” for the eligibility to apply for VTC’s Higher Diploma Programmes or related civil service jobs which require Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics as one of their general entry requirements. Separate tuition fee will be charged for this optional module.
  3. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme name, content or change the offering campus(es) before class commencement if circumstances so warrant.
