| Entrance Requirements | Secondary 3 or above. Between 16.5 and 33.5 of age. Applicants must pass the interview and the simple eye sight and colour blindness tests.

| Programme Aims | The objective of running the course is to supply properly trained and qualified personnel to fulfill the manpower demand of the marine industry and to meet the local and international training standards for general purpose ratings. Besides, the course also provides opportunities for young people, who prefer to choose alternative routes for their career development. | ||

| Career Prospects |
The Recruitment and Placement Officer of Institute will arrange registration and interviews for students. At present, the majority of graduates serve on local tugs, bunker barge, harbour ferries and high-speed ferries running between Hong Kong and Macau or Mainland. The rest of graduates work in marine-related sectors. | ||
| Articulation | Having gained required sea experience, graduates may apply for examinations leading to Certificates of Competency, Class 3 Deck Officer (River Trade) or Grade 3 Coxswain (Local Vessel). | ||
| Professional Recognition | This course is approved by the Marine Department and in complaince with the international training standards and requirements for a junior general purpose rating. | ||
