  • Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE)

Grade E or above in the following subjects :

  • AS-Level subject : Use of English; and
  • AS-Level subject : Chinese Language & Culture1 ; and
  • One other A-Level subject or two other AS-Level subjects

AND

Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE)

  • Five subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English Language2 and Chinese Language

   OR

  • Equivalent
Higher Diploma Programmes
(5 semesters)
  • One HKALE A-Level subject or two AS-Level subjects at Grade E or above; AND
    Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English Language2 and Chinese Language; OR
  • Equivalent

Notes :

  1. Subject can be substituted by the following qualifications :
    -  Grade E or above in HKALE Chinese Literature; OR
    -  Grade D or above in an HKCEE language subject other than Chinese Language and English Language.
  2. Applicants who took HKCEE English Language in 2006 or before should have attained Grade E or above (Syllabus B) / Grade C or above (Syllabus A).
  3. Study duration of Degree rogrammes is normally 2 semesters in one academic year.
  4. Study duration of Higher Diploma programmes is normally 2 to 3 semesters during one academic year.
  5. Some programmes may have other specific entrance requirements. Please refer to Degree Programme and Higher Diploma Programme for individual programme details and specific entrance requirements before making your choices.
  6. Admission is subject to availability of study places.
     

Important Notes

  • Applicants can apply with the results of the same public examination in different years of award. The best grade of multiple attempts on a particular subject will be assessed for admission.
  • Successful completion of one Education Bureau’s Applied Learning (ApL) course on or before 2010 is recognised as comparable to one HKCEE subject pass.
  • The following English Language results will be considered individually as alternatives to the required HKALE / HKCEE English Language qualifications in the application :

Notes :

  1. For Degree programmes, TOEFL or IELTS results submitted must not be possessed more than a 2-year period, from the date of the test or examination to the date of commencement of study.
  2. Some programmes are only applicable to applicants applying on the strength of HKALE / HKCEE English Language qualifications. Please refer to Degree Programmes, Higher Diploma Programmes for individual programme details and entrance requirements.
     
  • If an applicant meets the specific circumstances, a Grade E or above in an alternative language subject in HKCEE (other than English Language and Chinese Language) will be considered individually as alternatives to the required HKCEE Chinese Language qualifications in the application for Higher Diploma programmes. The specific circumstances are :
    • The applicant has learned Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education. This caters specifically to applicants who have a late start in the learning of Chinese Language (e.g. due to their settlement in Hong Kong well past the entry level) or who have been educated in Hong Kong sporadically ; OR
    • The applicant has learned Chinese Language for six years or more in schools, but has been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in our local schools.

  • For applicants who do NOT have Hong Kong public examination results and wish to apply with qualifications obtained in Mainland China –
    • applicant should have completed Senior Secondary 3 Education in Mainland China; and
    • assessment will be based on results obtained in the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE).
    • Applications will be assessed individually by the departments concerned.
       
  • Other non-local qualifications refer to academic qualifications obtained in secondary or tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong and Mainland China. Applications with non-local qualifications, including language qualifications, will be assessed individually by the departments concerned.
