Entrance Requirements
Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics; OR VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies with successful completion of Foundation Mathematics III; OR VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education with successful completion of Mathematics 3G; OR Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin with successful completion of Mathematics Plus; OR Equivalent.
Remarks :
  1. Holders of VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies / VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education / Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin without successful completion of the relevant optional Mathematics module, should possess HKDSE Mathematics at Level 2 or above.
  2. An "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively, and a maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose.
  3. A "Grade D or E" and a "Grade C or above" in an HKDSE Other Language subject (Category C subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2" and "Level 3" respectively, and one Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose.
  4. Holders of Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) award upon successful completion of prescribed modules are eligible to apply for Higher Diploma Programmes.
Programme Aims
This programme aims to prepare students to enter the field of Ophthalmic Dispensing and to work in the eye care profession, taking up employment in optical shops, optometric clinics and eye clinics. The programme provides professional education geared towards producing well-rounded graduates who can contribute to the eye care industry in Hong Kong. The programme is based on the Fellowship Diploma of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and graduates are given full exemption from the three year theoretical papers of the ABDO. Graduates can obtain the Fellowship Diploma by taking the practical examinations after graduation. The practical examinations are conducted in IVE (Lee Wai Lee), which is the Practical Examination venue authorized by the ABDO.
 
This programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.
Career Prospects
Career prospects for graduates are excellent. Previous graduates are employed in local optical shops, optometric clinics, and eye clinics as Dispensing Opticians or Clinical Assistants. Students can be employed in lens laboratories or related trading firms or manufacturers as Technicians or Technical Sales Executives. The emphasis placed on practice management will enable the graduates to rise to higher levels in the technical management and sales area of the industry.

Graduates of the Higher Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing can enter the final year of the Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing or the Second year of the Honours Degree in Optometry at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland.
Professional Recognition
This Programme is recognised by The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO). Graduates are eligible for obtaining exemption from the three-year theoretical papers of the ABDO and can obtain the Fellowship Diploma by taking only the final practical examination after graduation in IVE (LWL).
